Diesel fuel is a liquid fuel utilized in diesel engines, characterized by ignition occurring without a spark. This ignition process results from the compression of the air-inlet mixture and the injection of fuel. Diesel engines exhibit higher thermodynamic efficiency and, consequently, enhanced fuel efficiency. This is particularly noticeable when diesel engines operate at part-load, as their air supply remains unthrottled compared to petrol engines, maintaining high efficiency levels. Modern diesel-engined automobiles achieve 20% to 40% better fuel economy, counterbalancing the higher per-liter emissions of greenhouse gases. In fact, diesel-powered vehicles emit 10–20 percent less greenhouse gas than comparable gasoline vehicles. Special low-temperature diesel incorporates additives to maintain liquidity at lower temperatures.
