Asphalt
Bitumen is a sticky, dark, and highly viscous liquid or semi-solid substance derived from petroleum. It can be found in natural deposits or obtained through refining processes. The term "asphaltum" was historically used before the 20th century, originating from Ancient Greek. In the year 2018, the Bitumen Material Plant (BMP) of the company sold over 745 thousand tonnes of bitumen in Kazakhstan, the CIS, and overseas, reaching a new level in the production of modified binders. Primarily (70%), asphalt is used in road construction as the glue or binder mixed with aggregate particles to form asphalt concrete. Other key applications include bituminous waterproofing products, such as the production of roofing felt and sealing flat roofs. Naturally occurring asphalt is sometimes referred to as "crude bitumen," possessing a viscosity similar to cold molasses. The material obtained from the fractional distillation of crude oil boiling at 525 °C (977 °F) is known as "refined bitumen."
